Libby Haines is a Melbourne based artist and designer born in 1986.
Painting is where Libby’s professional journey started in 2005 when she commenced her Bachelor in Visual and Media Arts. 15 years later in 2020, she came full circle to return to her original love. She works primarily with oil on canvas and currently her paintings take ordinary scenes from the home and reimagine these spaces in a dream-like and other worldly way. Using vibrant colours and textures, the walls and objects in her paintings almost wobble and bulge from the canvas. Unlike a traditional still life, Libby chooses to include elements that aren’t necessarily aesthetically pleasing, small details like a power point, cheap wine brand or a common appliance, remind the viewer this space exists in reality.
"My fashion/design background heavily influences my work, colour and pattern being a priority. I enjoy documenting everyday life and everyday objects, and elevating these to a higher status."
